Run with the Herd!
The Tufts University Alumni Association is excited to announce the first annual Jumbo Stampede 5k fun run, to be held on Saturday, October 10, 2009. The run is open to students, alumni, faculty, staff and their families, so join the University's First Lady, Adele Fleet Bacow, in this 5k run to kick off Homecoming festivities!

Join the stampede as we thunder through campus, passing by memorable highlights of your Tufts experience: painting the cannon, attending class on the academic quad, cheering on the Jumbos at Ellis Oval, and kissing under Bowen Gate. The Jumbo Stampede is a 5k run that launches you up atop the Hill and then leads you down through campus to the outdoor track, where you'll finish like a rock star to the cheers of fans in the stands.

Special prizes will be awarded for runners with the most school spirit and the best costume, so dress to impress!

Runners of all abilities are welcome, however the finish line will close at 10:00am. No baby joggers, strollers, in-line skates, bikes or skateboards allowed.

Race Day Schedule:
Saturday, October 10, 2009
Tufts University "J" Field (between Powderhouse Boulevard and the Ellis Oval)

Late-registration and number pick-up: 7:30 - 8:45am
Race start: 9:00am*
Post-race party: 9:30am - 11:00am
Awards Ceremony: 10:30am (approximately)

* Course will be closed one hour after the race start - all runners must cross the finish line by 10:00am.

Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers, as well as to the top finisher in the following age groups: 18 - 29, 30- 39, 40 - 49, 50 - 59 and 60+. Prizes will also be awarded to the runner demonstrating the most school spirit and to the runner wearing the best costume.

Advance Registration fee
General (alumni, faculty/staff and family): $20 per person
Student rate: $15 for current Tufts students

Late Registration fee (applies to all entries submitted after September 25, 2009)
General (alumni, faculty/staff and family): $25 per person
Student rate: $20 for current Tufts students

Click HERE. Online registration will close at 5:00pm on Thursday, October 8. Late registration will be available on-site at the "J" field on race morning between 7:30am and 8:45am.

Only 300 Jumbos can run with the herd, so register asap! All participants will receive a Jumbo Stampede 5k long-sleeved t-shirt – register early to ensure your desired size.

Number Pick-Up
Thursday, October 8 and Friday, October 9:
8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Avoid the rush on race day by stopping by the Office of Alumni Relations (80 George St, Medford) to pick up your bib number. This is an especially convenient option for for students, faculty and staff on-campus.

Saturday, October 10, 2009:
7:30am - 8:45am.
Bib numbers can be picked up at the registration area on J Field on race morning.

T-shirt Retrieval
Runners will be able to pick up their t-shirts and race bags after the race.

Baggage Claim
For your convenience, a baggage claim will be available near the registration area from 8:00am - 10:30am

The 3.1 mile course* begins on the Ellis Oval track before heading out on College Ave to Powderhouse Boulevard. At Packard Ave., the route turns onto campus and winds through the Residential and Academic Quads before returning for a lap around the track.



A water station will be provided near miles 1 and 2, as well as at the finish.

Getting There
Parking is available at Fletcher Field lot, Cousens Gymnasium and the Dowling Parking Garage, as shown by the "P" symbols in the course map.

If running a 5k isn't your speed, but you still want to participate, we'd love to have your help! We need volunteers for the following:

• Water stations
• Key course marshal positions
• Baggage claim
